NADH (also known as NAD+) is an absolutely vital molecule doing over 500 things in your body including fighting aging, providing energy and repair. We know NAD levels decrease in our body leading to age related illnesses and now the use of NAD supplements is leading a new area of medicine looking to use NAD to treat everything from heart disease, diabetes, muscle weakness and even Alzheimer’s disease.
What is NADH?
NADH stands for Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide. It’s a natural molecule found within every living cell of your body. When you are young your body naturally makes high levels of NADH but as you age these levels can fall by 50% every 20 years.
We depend upon NADH to convert the nutrients in our food into the energy we need. NADH also helps repair damaged DNA and activates a wide range of essential things your body does to stay young and healthy. We wrote a more in depth blog about what NAD is here. NADH is also known as NAD+.

NADH and ATP
The Energy Firestarter in your body is a molecule called ATP. Its a vital carrier of energy round your body to power literally everything you do from moving your muscles, thinking and even repairing and maintaining all the parts of your cells.

NADH Benefits
Scientists have demonstrated that boosting NAD+ back to the high levels people enjoy when they’re young will rejuvenate old cells back to a state of youth. This leads to multiple beneficial effects against ageing.
Scientific studies have demonstrated that increasing cellular NAD+ in elderly mice resulted in the repair of DNA damage to the point where the tissues of elderly mice were comparable to those of juvenile mice. A growing body of scientific research now suggests one of the best ways to combat ageing is to maintain high levels of NAD+

NADH as an Emerging Area of Medicine
NADH is a vital molecule in the production of the energy molecule ATP and also plays other roles. As we age we know that ATP and NADH levels in our body lower, particularly after the age of 40. As research in this area we are starting to explore NADH and aging diseases we are seeing precurors like NADH being used as potential medical treatments for some age related diseases.

NADH as a treatment for Alzheimer’s, depression, diabetes and retinal degeneration
A recent research paper from 2008 showed that NAD is being explored as a potential treatment for Alzheimer’s disease. In 2018 an important paper looked at using NAD supplements to help patients with heart disease. This paper from 2019 discussed NAD as a potential ‘silver bullet’ for medicine, in particular for diabetes.

NADH to Treat Heart Disease
In 2018 an important paper looked at using NAD supplements to help patients with heart disease. Further research from Dr Sinatra of UCONN shows that NAD supplements showed a significant increase in the strength of heart muscle for patients with heart disease. The significant gain was enough to convert bed bound patients to being able to move around again. hes now dubbed this exciting new area of medicine Energy Presursor Therapy (EPT)

EPT to treat migraines
The NADH supplement boost also led to EPT being used to treat migraines with surprising results too. This paper from 2018 in the world renowned ‘Nature’ discusses a wide range of benefits including as a use against migraines.

Trubrain Clockwise – NADH Supplement
We’ve recently launched a product called Clockwise that boosts NAD levels in your body in 3 ways
- Boosting the ingredients your body needs to make NAD itself
- Boosting NAD levels directly
- Boosting your body to recycle more used up NAD
